This would be a cute place to meet up with a friend. The parking lot is pretty small, but there is a side lot right off Oella Ave. I just happen to stop by on a weekday afternoon. Although there weren't many customers, there was only one person working. I stood in line for about 10 minutes before she was able to take my order. I had the vanilla chai and tea cookies. The prices are about the same as Starbucks. I thought the chai was too sweet, but the tea cookies were delicious! They remind me of the mini snowball cookies minus the pecans. I'd go back just to get a dozen of them.

Perfect place to grab coffee to go or a book/laptop and stay a while. Fresh coffee. Good lattes. Breakfast sandwich basic but solid.

Hopefully it was an off day but at 8:30 pm Sunday morning, there were no donuts. Zero. And they weren't making any. The coffee was also very bitter. They are doing renovations, which is great, but the offerings should remain the same.

Was there for the first time today. Great selection of breakfast sandwiches and pastry. Had the Maui which was egg, ham, cheese and mango salsa. Delicious. Coffee was great. Shared an apple fritter also wonderful. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Crowded but they kept it moving. 7 tables, one long table and counter seats. We will be back.

Environment is nice, staff friendly. Coffee ok. Breakfast sandwich looked reasonably priced (listed as $5.50 on the board), but even though the sandwich descriptions included sausage or ham, we were charged an extra $1.50 for the meat, and staff asked, "what cheese would you like," as if cheese were included, then we were charged an extra $0.50+ for cheese. $7.55 is a bit pricy for a breakfast sandwich IMO, with exceptional cases. It wouldn't have bothered me so much if the pricing had been made clear rather than misleading.

We've been eating here during trips to the hiking path. Recently they rearranged the furniture making the dining area more spacious. The breakfast sandwiches and coffee are good. Today I tried the turkey club which was very good.

One of my favorite little bakery places. The only flaw with this place is that the interior is small and there's a bunch of tables for display for stuff that's cute but more like little trinkets. If they just took out those tables and shelves then they would have a lot more room. But enough of that. There bakery is lovely and they have a good drinks. This is a great place to stop at after you take a hike through the Patapsco State Park. There is a nice lovely outdoor area which is good in the winter. They have a lot of really nice breakfast sandwiches too. All in all, a good place despite the smallness.

Just got a breakfast sandwich, pastry and coffee. The lady at the counter suggested scallions in the eggs. Great suggestion. Excellent. As for the 2 star review below he had to wait a little. SO WHAT. You seemed very satisfied with evening else. You mark it below average. Why?

Was so excited to try this place after all the hype. I'm a photographer and had just finished a shoot in Ellicott city and decided to treat myself to a chocolate croissant, I decided on a chocolate are one after the woman said it was good. Got home and settled down to eat my special treat...and its dry!!! Not just dry but tasteless with no chocolate except a drizzle on top, pretty disappointed, I could get a better one from giant, maybe their other things are good, but the best place about this place would be saving me the unnecessary calories from throwing this out :-/

I ordered my son's bowling theme birthday cake from here and when I went to pick it up...pictures are worth a thousand words! We were told the cake was on the floor when they opened and they didn't even attempt to contact me so I could get another cake. My 4 year old son had picked out the picture of the cake he wanted and was so heartbroken when he saw what we actually received. To top it off, they didn't even have a box that fit the cake they decided to bake last minute. These people shouldn't even be in business!

Met a long time friend here for coffee and conversation this morning. The first thing she said to me is that this place doesn't have the best coffee, but they have parking and it is quiet enough to have conversation. She was right. The coffee was okay, but the establishment was perfect. Nice tables where we could sit and chat for the hour-and-a-half that we were there. Nice quiet music in the background - not a laptop in site. I enjoyed a dark coffee and a muffin - both were okay - nothing spectacular, but okay. Would I go back? To meet my friend for coffee and conversation? Any day :)

I loved this place! Great sandwiches and fresh coffee in a relaxing atmosphere with nice people working the counter and clearing the table. Nice selection of touristy stuff to browse in the shop areas. The prices are reasonable too.

I wouldn't say it's the best or the worst option for a cup in town but it's easily forgettable. Breakfast / Lunch runs into 3pm when the kitchen closes and there are roughly 8 or so options to pick from. My americano was ok and was priced at about what I'd pay at Starbucks but with half of the flavor from the espresso roast. The inside sort of reminded me of a cracker barrel with little trinkets and other useless items for clutter, over priced and branded with Ellicott City's name on them -- I'll pass. 3 stars.

I've been coming here for years. Lovely almond lattes, fancy cookies: viscotta, tea cake, cowboy cookies are on regular rotation. The Maui muffin is our favorite egg sandwich - it has a mango chutney or salsa that is just fabulous. Yogurt parfaits are fresh and delicious when berries are in season, and the desserts are awesome, especially the pies. I come back for the friendly staff and the quiet ambiance. It's a perfect way to begin or end the Trolley Trail, but we park nearby, off Oella when we do that.

I used to love this place and would come often with my wife and dogs. Sit outdoors and enjoy. The service was always better from the teenage girls then the older women who seem bothered to wait on customers at all, but I always got past that. Then recently I met the owner and saw first hand how unappreciative he was of the patrons coming through his doors (guess that is why the older women were so bitter). They say it takes money to make money and it is plain to see he passes his business woes on to the very same people that pay his bills. Now I can not stomach ever going back. Shame too, and also sad how the owner, who should be the most loved person in the establishment, is at the end of the day, just a nickel and dimer. I think I'll get my coffee and croissant elsewhere now. So should everyone else.

Coffee is good, food is hit and miss. Had the Rachel sandwich, I don't know how they consider this "famous", it's kind of gross. Service is good though. They have regular breakfast foods you can't mess up, bagels eggs stuff like that.

I bought a Groupon for 1 dozen cupcakes and waited until the last day to redeem it. The staff was very helpful and I ordered a mix of butterfinger, spice and italian cream cupcakes to pick up a week later. They have a nice variety to choose from when preordering, but the selection in the case was almost empty. I wanted to order a fruit smoothie for the baby, but they use a premix, which is unappealing. They had a good selection of pastries, breads and muffins. The cupcakes were hit or miss. The butterfinger cupcake was incredible and the other two were lacking. I would go back for another butterfinger cupcake and to try some of their fresh breads, but I'm guessing I'll have to special order the cupcakes or at least call ahead to check their availability.

Fabulous pastries, coffee, teas, and gourmet sandwiches. The sandwiches are delicious and creative. This is a great place for breakfast, a snack, lunch, etc

I'm very adamant that if you're running a bakery, your baked goods should be from scratch or at least taste fresh or homemade. Unfortunately, the Old Mill failed me. I got a cheese danish, but they don't accept debit cards under $3 so I had to buy an orange cranberry muffin as well. The danish was by no means made from scratch and it tasted as though it had been in the display case for a month. I expected the muffin to have orange zest in it but it barely even tasted like anything... I could have gotten a better muffin from 7-11. Bummer.

Great little coffee shop! The vanilla chai is amazing, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who knows what chai is and appreciates it! Also the fresh brewed coffee is some of the best I've ever tasted. The flavors switch in and out, but my favorite is the Almond. I've never tried their breakfast food, but I've heard mixed reviews. Seem to have a lot of pastries and other things as well. The coffee is also really cheap, even beating out the gas station coffee which pales in comparison. Worth a visit!

Local teenagers sling lattes, breakfast sandwiches, smoothies and a strange variety of baked goods from behind the counter in amongst knick-knacks, tea, and tea paraphernalia. Latte was just fine and the service was with a smile. Bathroom is spacious and clean. A perfectly fine little spot. But it's not love.

Cupcakes were just okay. Nothing special. The shop was nice though and it's a lovely drive through Historic Ellicott City and old Frederick Road. Be careful going on weekends, as Main Street can get very crowded and the backup of traffic is a pain.

Old Mill Cafe is perfect for curling up with a book and a latte, catching up with friends, or eating a meal outside with family and the dog after a hike in Trolley Trail/Banneker Park. I used to only come for coffee and pastries, but I went recently with my parents for lunch after our hike and I wanted to write a review regarding their lunch options. We ordered the tuna salad sandwich, the hot ham and cheese, and the shrimp and corn chowder, and all of these dishes were pretty good. The tuna salad was nicely seasoned, light on the mayonnaise, and had great tender and juicy texture that was the perfect contrast to the toasted bread. The sandwich even came with a sugar cookie on top. My parents enjoyed their meals as well, and we were all stuffed at around $6-7 a person. We ate outside under an umbrella, with our dog happily laying by our feet, and the food was brought to us there where we basked in the great weather and the great people-watching--people of all walks of life come into Old Mill Cafe, from high school teenagers to elderly couples, exemplifying what a wonderful local gem this place is. :)

Great place for curling up with a book they have a few couches and comfy chairs. The staff has been over the top kind. Make sure to tip their "counter intelligence crew".

I haven't as of yet sampled any of the pastries but I did get a kick ass egg sandwich there once and they have the most delicious (and evil, I'm sure) iced coffee drinks you could ever want. Nice atmosphere too -- plenty of tables, a clean bathroom and pleasant help. There's a smallish parking lot in front and a large public lot right around the corner on Oella Avenue.

Staff: WOW, I was a 1st timer, and I felt like the Queen of England. I toured around the bakery counter, was given a free cookie, and a complete low down on the cake situation. LOL Anyway..very cute...coffee from Baltimore Tea and Coffee I was told; Very Good!! Cinnabuns were huge, and my egg/bacon/scallion sandwich on a crossiant was killer. I recommend for a good morning cup of coffee and a pastry. I was told this morning, they have the best Shrimp Salad "around." Maybe I will check that out tomorrow. They do have a huge sign saying kitchen closes at 3pm. So eat before then! Minus one star for the girl that carried her big dog in, and rested his paws on the counter. Gross!! I will give more star to the Staff that tells her to take her dog outside!

Pros: I'm a huge fan. Their espresso drinks are really good, and they have amazing pastries (they are VERY sweet though). I love love love their breakfast sandwiches, and they serve them until 3pm, which is great. Free wi-fi is a big plus and outlets available if you root around a bit. Really great ambiance and anywhere you sit feels private (they've got a couch in the back too). Staff is really really friendly and helpful. Cons: Their food service can be a little slow, depending on who is in the kitchen that day, and there's really no good place to wait for your espresso drink while they're making it (which can also be a little slow). If you go near closing time the younger girls that work there can get a little rowdy and gossipy, but it's not too bad to block out. Music they play is obnoxious. The cons are small enough that I go here gladly over Bean Hollow down the street.

So here we are in Ellicott City; a place really trying to fight being Yuppieville, MD, and I come across Old Mill. It reminds me of a mom and pop tea house from the Bridgewater, VA area. I had the egg & croissant sandwich with turkey bacon. Sooo good! And the coffee is brewed perfectly. As far as ambiance, its one of those places that subconciously DISCOURAGES you to pull the laptop out and work. On one side of the couch is a stack of newspapers, on the other a small bookshelf with books I'm staring but know I shouldn't pick up (time). I'd give Old Mill 5 stars, but the music is a deterrent for me to stay here all day.

Cozy spot. Lots of locals. Hit or miss service. Good coffee (when it's ready) and sandwiches.
